SUMMARY:Speaker Night: Bo Bonner on AI Ethics
DESCRIPTION:On the ‘Usefulness’ of A.I. – Its Gift As Mirror and Reminder \n\n\n\nArtificial Intelligence has already begun to revolutionize human society. Advocates of the technology proclaim that we are only in the beginning stages of this change\, marked out by the many potential uses A.I. promises to afford us. Will this “usefulness” prove to be a boon for human civilization? Join us as we consider what “gifts” A.I. offers to its human creators. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBonner is the Headmaster of Mother of Good Counsel Preparatory School\, Author of “A Very Little Office of Compline” from TAN Press\, and Host of the Catholic Morning Show and Co-Host of The UnCommon Good On Iowa Catholic Radio. He is also a PhD student in Catholic Studies with the Maryvale Institute at St. Mary’s University\, Twickenham London. A philosopher with an emphasis in theological ethics\, a poet\, and a professor\, he is currently researching the resources of the Catholic Intellectual Tradition\, especially Catholic Social Teaching\, to resist the technocratic paradigm in the digital age. His working thesis is entitled “Establishing Foundational Principles for Catholic Social Teaching on Digital Technology: Pope Leo XIII\, Newman\, and McLuhan.

Pope Leo XIV called this “medicine for our world.”  \n\n\n\n2. “Monasticism is the reference point for ALL of the baptized.”–-St John Paul II–Orientale Lumen \n\n\n\nMonasticism is one of the two pillars upon which the “medicine” of Eastern Christian spirituality rests.  \n\n\n\nEven the married must first be ‘good monks’ to be happily married. \n\n\n\n3. “Prayer in the Eastern Christian style” \n\n\n\nWe must not just pray.  We must BECOME prayer \n\n\n\n4.  Liturgy–the blueprint for all things in life \n\n\n\nLiturgy is not something we “attend.”  It is our transformative immersion in the blueprint of God’s order whereby Heaven and Earth meet.

SUMMARY:Christopher Baglow to Speak on “The Widest Wisdom: Retrieving the Christian Doctrine of Creation”
DESCRIPTION:In a world with a new scientific feat or discovery every other day\, it can be challenging to navigate how we approach the idea of creation and a creator God. He proposes that\, “In this talk we will consider the four ‘marks’ of the Christian doctrine of creation\, and how modern science allows us to perceive their relevance in a new and deeper way.” \n  \nYou can read more about Dr. Baglow at his website here. He is also a published author\, with titles such as “Faith\, Science\, and Reason” and “Creation: a Catholic’s Guide to the Universe\,” as well as being a featured author in multiple Word on Fire Institute projects. \n  \nThis talk is open to the public with free admission. SUMMARY:Truth in Many Tongues: Religious Conversion in the Early Spanish Empire
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Wasserman-Soler examines how the Spanish Crown and its churchmen managed an empire of unprecedented linguistic diversity. During the sixteenth century\, the monarchy made only sporadic efforts to propagate Spanish throughout its vast territories. At the same time\, Spanish churchmen used a wide array of languages in their evangelization efforts: Arabic\, Castilian\, Latin\, Nahuatl\, Otomi\, and many others. Wasserman argues that churchmen employed surprisingly flexible methods of\ncommunication. Through a series of case studies\, he demonstrates how Catholic churchmen\nrepeatedly made space for languages other than Spanish. Altogether\, the process by which Spanish became a global language was far from linear.
